As Arizona burns as ground zero for racism against all Hispanics, a Puerto Rican
woman sits comfortably in her office
oblivious
and unconcerned her selfishness, greed and ignorance of the most important issue
for Mexican Americans and the undocumented is responsible for the biggest civil
rights disaster since the days of Jim Crow in the South.
The only action to end Arizona SB 1070 is Immigration Reform in Washington.
"Let them eat cake"
Nydia Velázquez when asked by the
White House for votes for Health Care Reform, Nydia Velázquez could have traded
votes for Immigration Reform but instead traded the votes of the mostly Mexican
American congresspersons of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus for $7.3 Billion for medical benefits
for the residents of Puerto Rico.
The consequence of this selfish
action
fuels the fire of Arizona's racism
and what starts in Arizona, quickly spreads across the USA as a killing cancer.
As chairperson of the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus, Nydia Velázquez has a
fiduciary responsibility to
articulate and spearhead legislation
beneficial to America's Hispanics.
America's Hispanics means all Hispanics
―
not a handful of Hispanics in Puerto Rico
but in actuality, all gains by
America's Hispanics are because of
the explosive growth of the Mexican
American constituency.
When Obama won the Presidency in
2008, it was not Puerto Rican voters
who delivered the White House but
Mexican American voters who offered
quid pro quo with, "Give us
Immigration Reform and we will give
you the White House."
In 2008, an agreement was reached by
the parties. Hispanics elected Obama
for the sole purpose to spearhead
Immigration Reform but trusting
Obama has turned out to be a
colossal mistake in Hispanic
judgment.
Obama promised in his first year as
president, he would deliver
Immigration Reform.
Immigration Reform is not a Obama
priority and Immigration Reform,
unfortunately, will not be approved
in 2010, 2011 and 2012 being an
presidential election year is also
lost.
Even if Obama moved on Immigration
Reform, Obama's and Napolitano's
focus is enforcement and this does
not even come close to what is
acceptable to America's Hispanics.
The quid pro quo agreement is in
breech.
Mexican Americans made good on our
promise and delivered the White
House but Obama in the first year an
a half as president, Obama has not
honored his promise. If Obama does
not deliver Immigration Reform in
this term of office, this term will
be his first and last!
Affinity fraud
and
shanghaied
Nydia Velázquez
by affinity fraud
shanghaied the Hispanic
Congressional Caucus members' votes
for $7.3 Billion for medical benefits
for the residents of Puerto Rico.
As chairperson of the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus, Nydia Velázquez has
a
fiduciary responsibility of
representing the best interests of
America's Hispanics and this means
not cutting a deal in some smoke
filled back room in the dark of
night for Puerto Rico.
Nydia Velázquez also has the
responsibility of
understanding the most important
Hispanic issues of
the day.
She should have known the lack of
Immigration Reform would devastate
the undocumented and the Mexican
Americans who are part of this group
by marriage, mothers and fathers,
siblings, cousins, neighbors,
friends and advocates.
She probably knew but "Let them eat
cake"
Nydia Velázquez was more concerned
about the weekend weather in Puerto
Rico.
The lack of Immigration Reform fuels
racism flowing throughout the United
States where brown faces are found.
In comparison to all Hispanic
issues, Immigration Reform towers
over all other Hispanic issues with health
care programs in Puerto Rico found
at the bottom of the long list.
At the bottom!
Hispanic News calls for the
resignation of
Nydia Velázquez as Chairperson of
the Congressional Hispanic Caucus
If "Let them eat cake"
Nydia Velázquez
does not know the
importance of Immigration Reform then
she has no business being the
Chairperson of the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus;
accordingly,
Hispanic News calls for her
resignation. She
should resign voluntarily and if she
does not, Hispanic News will
continue to write editorials at
every opportunity degrading her
leadership asking
for her resignation.
Hispanic News will also support her
defeat in the 2010 election.
Eventually, the entire United states
will know
Nydia Velázquez sold out Mexican
Americans and the undocumented for
30 pieces of silver.
As for Mexican American
members of the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus, Hispanic News
accuses them as unindicted
spineless
co-conspirators
to allow Immigration Reform to be
shoved
aside by Nydia Velázquez to
benefit Puerto Rico.
Furthermore, to exasperate the lack
of Immigration Reform by stating
Obama has proven a
masterful leader as declared by
"Charlie"
Gonzalez
of Texas
is just plain naive. A better word
is "stupid."
This reminds me of
Congressman Silvestre Reyes who
serves as the Chairman of the House
Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence,
who did not know the whether
al-Qaeda was Sunni or Shiite?
Considering
Mr. Reyes served on the House
Intelligence Committee since 2001
and has been briefed countless times
on Iraq, Israel, Jordon, Lebanon,
Syria, al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Kurds,
Sunni and Shiites along with travel
to Iraq five times, Afghanistan
three times and recent trips to
Lebanon and Israel, and all this
prior to becoming chairman, was
asked by national security editor
Jeff Stein, a reporter with
Congressional Quarterly, whether
al-Qaeda was Sunni or Shiite?
"Predominantly
―
probably Shiite," Reyes replied.
Reyes could not describe Hezbollah
and incorrectly described al-Qaeda's
Islamic roots.
Asked to describe the Lebanese
militant group Hezbollah, Reyes
responded "Hezbollah. Uh, Hezbollah"
and then said, "Why do you ask me
these questions at 5 o'clock?"
The Texas congressman later added:
"Speaking only for myself, it's hard
to keep things in perspective and in
the categories."
From these type statements from
two Mexican American congressmen, it
is obvious to see how a Puerto Rican
woman named
Nydia Velázquez manipulated three
old senile men to obtain their
votes.
Silvestre
Reyes, "Charlie"
Gonzalez, and Ed Pastor are too
stupid to be congressmen. There are
countless others (the next
editorial) that need to be exposed.
And I am not the only one who has
these opinions. I was once the
executive director of economic
development for the City of El Paso,
Texas. I still have numerous friends
all over Texas I visit periodically
by telephone and all agree, Reyes
and Gonzalez are two dumb
congressmen.
Then back home in Phoenix, there
is Ed Pastor. In 20 years as a
congressman, Pastor has never taken
on Joe Arpaio.
The only congresspersons who have
proven true advocates for the civil
rights of Hispanics are Congressmen
Raúl
M.
Grijalva and
Luis
V.
Gutiérrez.
All others
like Ed Pastor are more concerned
about Happy Hour than addressing the
injustices of Joe Arpaio.
Without appropriate representation
from Mexican Americans on the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus,
America's Hispanics will always be
playing catch up. Hispanic News
labels the present Hispanic members
of congress as too "mousy" to stand
up as advocates for Mexican
Americans and the undocumented. The
Mexican Americans on the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus that
were easily manipulated by Nydia
Velázquez should retire or Mexican
Americans should vote them out of
office.
We need a Tea Cup type Hispanic
rebellion.
Ax KC boycott
I
n
2006, we had James Sensenbrenner. In
2006, Hispanic News began the Ax
Kimberly Clark
boycott. (AxKC).
I originated the Ax KC boycott as
a means to send a message to
Congressman James Sensenbrenner (His
great grandfather started Kimberly
Clark) who chaired the House
Judiciary Committee and was the
author of HR 4437 which would have
make felons of all undocumented in
the United States including those
that provided any kind of assistance
to the undocumented.
Declaring family members as
felons was the rallying cry for all
Hispanics, undocumented and American
Hispanics in the United States.
Many groups across the United
States endorsed the Ax KC boycott
and notice of the boycott spread
throughout Mexico, Central America
and South America.
Here in Phoenix, Arizona, 125,000
persons marched at the Arizona State
Capitol. 60% of the marchers were
young Hispanics fearing if they
helped their parents, they would be
convicted as felons and deported.
Today we have Russell Pearce
Since 2000, Russell Pearce has
authored and sponsored anti-Hispanic
Arizona legislation with the latest
being SB 1070.
What began in 2000 with sequential
anti-Hispanic legislation
ratcheting up anti-Hispanic racism
in each succeeding year, with the
latest being SB 1070
―
all pale in comparison to
what is forthcoming in the 2010-2011
session.
The
racism directed to adult Arizona
Hispanics and the undocumented will
next turn to the children.
Legislation will be introduced in
the Arizona State Legislature
to not grant birth certificates to
children born in Arizona of
undocumented
parents.
This
smacks of "
When
Herod realized a king was to be born
in Bethlehem, Herod gave orders to
kill all the boys in Bethlehem and
its vicinity who were two years old
and under."
Will this legislation be approved?
There is no question in my mind, the
Republicans will continue to have
the majority in the Arizona
Legislature and the present
Republican governor will win
election. The Arizona Democratic
Party leaves a lot to be desired to
make change in 2010.
And remember
― what begins in Arizona is quickly
duplicated in other states.
The only way to stop this racism
toward Hispanics is approval of
Immigration Reform
in Washington.
Hispanics had an opportunity to
obtain a commitment for Immigration
Reform to follow Health Care Reform
but
when the White House asked what
would it take to obtain the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus votes
to approve Health Care Reform, Nydia
Velázquez instead of asking for a
commitment for Immigration Reform
asked the White House for $1
billion
for
Puerto Rico's residents
to have access to a state insurance
exchange and
$6.3 billion
for Medicaid spending in Puerto Rico.
In addition, whereas the Senate bill
strictly limited how new Medicaid
funding could be spent, the
reconciliation bill gave Puerto Rico
flexibility to determine how best to
use this funding to expand coverage
and improve services.
The
Congressional Hispanic Caucus votes
of "yes" on
Health Care Reform knocked down a huge roadblock
in reaching
the necessary 216
votes for final passage of Health Care
Reform.
There was no path to
216 votes without
the Hispanic Caucus
on board, and that
meant every member.
This meant the
Hispanic Caucus was
the keystone to
Health Care Reform
approval and with
this much leverage,
the Hispanic Caucus
could have obtained
a iron clad
commitment from
President Obama to
proceed with
Immigration Reform
after Health Care
Reform:
Unfortunately,
Immigration Reform
is not a priority
with
Chairperson Congresswoman Nydia
Velazquez (D-N.Y.). Her selfish priority
―
Puerto Rico.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus
traded their votes for Puerto Rico
not for Immigration Reform.
The ramification
― Arizona burns with
racism and next comes taking away
citizenship from Mexican American
children who were born in the United
States of undocumented parents.
Arizona is the laboratory for
authoring state legislation by out
of state attorneys with considerable
expertise to stand any challenge
that may be taken to the United
States Supreme Court.
What begins in Arizona is
duplicated in most other states,
cities and towns to adopt Arizona
legislative verbiage to withstand
court challenges.
For Nydia Velázquez to conclude
all that happens in Arizona is only
parochial and only impacts Arizona
is evidence Velázquez is sadly
uniformed and is another classic
illustration Velázquez has no
understanding of the severity of
what is happening in Arizona. And if
she has no understanding of what is
happening in Arizona, this is an
admission of guilt Velázquez has no
understanding of immigration law and
certainly the plight of the
undocumented across the USA!
So with all all the above,
what remedy does Nydia Velázquez
recommend? A
request to Napolitano to cut ties
with Arizona police
Nydia Velázquez with a grandstand
play without substance
called on the Department of Homeland Security to
sever its ties with Arizona police in response to the state's new immigration
enforcement law.
Nydia Velázquez wrote
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to demand the termination of its
immigration-enforcement partnerships (287g) with law enforcement entities in the
state.
Apparently,
Nydia Velázquez is one of the
many persons in Washington DC who have no clue Arizona SB1070
requires all Arizona police
officers to determine a person's immigration status if a person is stopped,
detained or arrested and there is "reasonable suspicion" they are in the country
illegally. The police are required to question and verify the citizenship of
anyone they reasonably suspect to be an illegal immigrant.
Napolitano's Department
of Homeland Security personnel will not be enforcing Arizona SB 1070 which
creates a separate authority for immigration enforcement at the state level.
There are more than 16,000 Arizona police officers and everyone except
Nydia Velázquez and Lucille Roybal-Allard
know the 287g program is not necessary to do what is mandated in SB1070.
Nydia Velázquez c
alling
Arizona's recently-enacted law requiring police to question and verify the
citizenship of anyone they reasonably suspect to be an illegal immigrant "appaling."
(To lack of leadership, greed, selfishness and lack of the issues add
―
does not know how
to spell).
This is the same as closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Trying to take action when it is too late after a
period of profligacy, American Hispanics are tired of politicians who talk the
talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to representative and leadership
responsibility. It’s easy to get up in front of the cameras and rant against the
excesses of ICE and 287g. What’s hard is actually demonstrating effective
leadership for the constituency one is supposed to represent.
To the above add,
Nydia Velázquez has no expertise in
immigration topics which is one more reason
Velázquez should be shoved out as
Chairperson of the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus.
What is truly appalling is the Chairwoman of the Hispanic Congressional
Caucus outmaneuvered the Mexican American members of Congress and delivered the
goodies to Puerto Rico.
The Mexican American
members of Congress who allowed Velázquez to do this instead of striking a deal
for Immigration Reform should all be voted out of office in 2010. They must be
held accountable for not standing up for the undocumented and Mexican Americans.
They have lost all creditability with Mexican American voters.
Of all the incompetent Mexican American congresspersons is Ed Pastor whose
home district is Phoenix, Arizona. He above all should have been the fiercest
fighter for Immigration Reform but he is just too stupid to understand the
gravity of not having Immigration Reform. Ed is more concerned with happy hour
at the Oaxaca watering hole.
Another congresswoman with no understanding of immigration law is
Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard
(D-Calif.) who wrote in a press release,
“The federal government should not be an accessory to the
unconstitutional actions of the Arizona state government. By continuing to work
with Arizona police departments operating under SB 1070, the Department is
implicitly condoning the shameful tactics authorized by the new law."
Apparently,
Nydia Velázquez and Lucille
Roybal-Allard are not aware Napolitano previously limited the 287g program with
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Yes,
Nydia
Velázquez and Lucille Roybal-Allard, Maricopa County is in Arizona.
Another example
Nydia Velázquez and Lucille Roybal-Allard have
no understanding of Mexican American issues in the United States and probably do
not know who Joe Arpaio is.
'Top kill' op fails
With the BP oil spill dominating the
news for 48 days and the growing
frustration with the Obama
administration and its handle on
this disaster plus the disaster of
failing to have approved Immigration
Reform, one + one + one + one =
Obama, a one term president.
BP's 'top kill' operation to plug
the ruptured well in the Gulf of
Mexico has failed in a stunning
setback to efforts to stem the worst
oil spill in US history.
BP and federal authorities are
now turning to a new strategy to
stop the leak, but it will take at
least four to seven days before it
can be put into place.
White House energy adviser Carol
Browner went so far as to call the
spill 'the biggest environmental
disaster' the country has faced
― eclipsing the 1989
Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska which
spewed 41.6 million liters of oil.
Speaking on an NBC television
program, Ms. Browner said the oil
might keep leaking for months until
relief wells are completed in
August.
If this sound like tap dancing to
avoid blame for the biggest
environmental disaster in United
States history,
Velázquez displays even more
transparent tap dancing on a bar top
trying to portray herself as an
advocate for Mexican American
Hispanics dealing with the Civil
Rights disaster she orchestrated by
affinity fraud
shanghaiing the Hispanic
Congressional Caucus members' votes
for
$7.3 Billion for
medical benefits for the residents
of Puerto Rico instead of obtaining
a commitment for Immigration Reform
from Obama. The lack of Immigration
Reform is the cause and effect of
the biggest national civil rights
lynching since the days of Jim Crow.
Tap dancing may be a calling in
Puerto Rico but does not play in
Arizona. Not even a good try,
Velázquez.
Velázquez is quoted as saying
"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche."
("Let them eat cake").
The quotation, as attributed to
Marie Antoinette, was claimed to
have been uttered during one of the
famines that occurred in France
during the reign of her husband
Louis XVI. Upon being alerted the
people were suffering due to
widespread bread shortages, the
Queen is said to have replied, "Then
let them eat brioche." Although the
phrase was seldom cited by opponents
of the monarchy at the time of the
French Revolution, it did acquire
great symbolic importance in
subsequent histories when
pro-revolutionary historians sought
to demonstrate the obliviousness and
selfishness of the French
upper-classes at that time.
Sounds like Marie Antoinette and
Nydia Velázquez have a lot in
common.
